AI is making me dumber

Growing up, I was always told I’m a smart kid. Particularly by my family. They said it so often I fully believed it too. Internalized it. Maybe I was the smartest in some rooms. Maybe I wasn’t. It fed my ego. Probably helped make up for the lack of confidence in myself regarding how I looked. But that belief about being the smartest in the room is slowly leaving me. Not because I’m starting to think that I was never smart, it’s because I’m starting to think I’m genuinely getting dumber as I think less cognitively, feed my ai agent every thing instead of remembering things and live my day to day on more auto pilot mode because of AI. All answers available in 10 seconds. The tiny thing in my head now holds more information about things than I need to need to know. Why do I know the relation between Preity Zinta and Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Or the 35 business ideas ChatGPT thinks would fit my personality. Maybe this would make for some interesting conversations. But I don’t want just feel good conversations at a house party for some social validation. I want to be smarter. I want to feel smarter. Fix my broken memory. Not rely on this 6 inch screen for every little movement or purpose on my life. But also, if I’m doing things I love, with the people I love, and making a decent living while at it, what purpose does being smarter serve anyway? This got existential. Okay that’s all for today’s thought dump. Adios.
